Anyone who’s spent hours scrolling SkinTok knows the drill: Someone swears an ingredient changed their life, so you buy it, but it doesn’t even come close to changing yours. The Quiz
More like an intake form at a dermatologist’s office, this quick yet comprehensive questionnaire goes beyond the usual multiple-choice, “skin type” questions, and focuses more on your concerns and how much they bother you. It also wants to know about your sensitivities, allergies, the climate you live in and past skin issues.
Another piece of the puzzle the brand considers is your current skin-care routine, and you’re prompted to choose specific products you use from a drop-down menu. The drop-down found everything in my daily lineup except one moisturizer, which wasn’t a problem because I just selected another in its place. (I’m constantly testing products, so my routine isn’t static anyway.) It asks this to make sure that whatever the derm prescribes for you doesn’t clash (or duplicate) what you’re already using.
Uploading a makeup-free selfie is optional, though of course I did because I wanted to see how it viewed my skin. It could “see” my lines and wrinkles (humbling), so we were aligned on my primary concern. One thing that surprised me a bit was that it also detected under-eye dark circles and/or puffiness, which is not something I could see in my picture and not something I consider a big concern. Nonetheless, I didn’t take it personally. I appreciate a thorough exam.
The Formula
I was prescribed a custom-blended formula called VX.2, which included tretinoin, niacinamide, Matrixyl 3000, hyaluronic acid and provitamin B5, based on my primary concerns: lines and wrinkles, a little bit of redness and visible pores.
