From Smashbox primers to Lisa Frank hair clips, beauty is having a full-blown nostalgia moment this summer—and the White Rain makeover might be the biggest throwback yet. Founded in 1952, the American hair-care brand has been a fixture in family bathrooms (and drugstores) for more than 70 years, and this August, it’s relaunching as White Rain+, a modernized 14-product line built around targeted hair-care routines and sold exclusively on Amazon.com.
Every product in the collection is priced at $8.99, keeping the brand’s longtime value positioning intact, while shifting its focus toward the benefit-led formulas and modernized packaging more commonly associated with prestige and specialty hair care.
“White Rain has been trusted for generations; however, the timing felt right to take a brand that people remember and give them a new reason to discover it,” says William Johnson, Head of Marketing & Innovation for Innovative Brands. “Today’s consumers are looking for haircare that delivers on performance without forcing them to compromise on accessibility. We saw an opportunity to build on White Rain’s legacy while evolving the brand to meet those expectations. White Rain+ represents that next chapter, which combines the familiarity of a trusted name with a more modern, elevated approach to hair care.”
Johnson said the brand’s decades of recognition give the relaunch a built-in advantage. “White Rain is one of those beauty brands that can spark an immediate memory,” he said. “With a history dating back to 1952, the brand has been part of American beauty routines for more than 70 years, creating a sense of familiarity that spans generations. Now, we have the opportunity to turn that nostalgia into something relevant for a new generation. That combination of heritage and reinvention is what makes this moment particularly exciting for the brand.”
According to Johnson, the relaunch goes beyond a design update, although he does say that is the transformation consumers will notice immediately. “This wasn’t just a packaging refresh—we took a more holistic approach to reimagining the White Rain experience. The packaging is more elevated, the formulas are more sophisticated and each collection is designed around a specific hair need, with ingredients consumers recognize and seek out today. From repair and volume to frizz control, White Rain+ was designed to make targeted hair care approachable and accessible while delivering the performance today’s consumer expects.”
The Collection
Organized into three benefit-driven collections—Anti-Frizz, Repair and Volumizing—each White Rain+ range is built out as a full routine with shampoo, conditioner, leave-in conditioner and hair mask. The line also includes two styling essentials, a Strong Hold Hairspray ($9) and a Heat Defense Protectant Spray ($9) for 14 products total.
The testing backs up the confidence: nearly half of consumers said they’d swap their usual brand—prestige or drugstore—for White Rain+. Anti-Frizz shampoo won on ease of use and left hair visibly cleaner and softer; Volumizing added lift without residue; and Repair drew the kind of praise—smoothing, high-quality—usually reserved for pricier brands. The takeaway: You don’t need to spend more to get results that feel like you did.
