I Tried Jones Road’s New Foundation Stick, and Now My DIOR Favorite Has Competition

It’s a holiday in my book whenever Jones Road Beauty launches a new product. The brand, founded by celebrity makeup artist Bobbi Brown, has impressed me more than once—most recently with its Lip Recharge Glossy Balm, which remains a personal obsession. Now, it’s expanding its complexion lineup with Your Skin Foundation Stick ($38), out today.

“We built this one to fix every complaint about foundation sticks, the heaviness, the cakiness, the dry patchy finish that settles in all the wrong places,” Brown says of the formula. “We kept pushing the formula until it felt like something you’d actually want to wear every day.”

That’s a big promise, especially for anyone who’s already loyal to a foundation stick that works. I’ll be honest: I already had one I adored, the TikTok-viral DIOR Forever Skin Perfect 24H Multi-Use Foundation Stick ($57), so I went into testing this one knowing it had a lot to live up to—but as a beauty editor, that only made it more fun.

I tested Your Skin Foundation Stick ahead of its launch, so I’m sharing everything I loved about it, along with the few honest details worth knowing before you add it to your cart.

Jones Road Your Skin Foundation Stick Fast Facts

  • Your Skin Foundation Stick is a medium-to-full buildable coverage foundation designed to look and feel like “your best skin,” according to the brand.
  • It comes in 30 shades, ranging from Pale Alabaster, described as “very pale with neutral pink undertones,” to Espresso, a “very deep” shade with neutral undertones.
  • It’s the fullest-coverage option among the brand’s complexion products, which include What The Foundation ($46) and Just Enough Tinted Moisturizer ($44).

Jones Road Your Skin Foundation Stick: Pros and Cons

PROS

  • The magnetic lid is genuinely useful and helps keep the stick from making a mess in your makeup bag.
  • The formula is easy to build, whether you want a little spot coverage or a more done-up, full-coverage finish.
  • It blends out easily with your fingers or a foundation brush, so it’s easy to use even when you’re rushing.
  • Even after a few layers, it still looks like your skin—just smoother, glowier and more even.

CONS

  • The emollient- and wax-rich formula may feel too creamy for oily or acne-prone skin types.
  • It takes some layering to build to fuller coverage, so it may not be the best fit if you prefer a more opaque finish..

What I Love About the Jones Road Your Skin Foundation Stick

What I love most about the Jones Road Your Skin Foundation Stick is its convenience. It comes in a minimalist twist-up stick with a magnetic cap that helps prevent it from popping open in your makeup bag and creating a mess. The formula itself is just as easy to use: creamy, buttery and incredibly blendable.

What surprised me the first time I swiped it across my skin was how sheer it looked at first. I wondered how it could possibly build to the medium-to-full coverage the brand promises. But as I layered it, I started to get it. The coverage built beautifully until my redness and dark spots were far less noticeable, and my complexion looked more even overall. Just as importantly, it didn’t cling to my dry patches the way some foundations can; if anything, my skin looked more hydrated.

Once I landed on the coverage I wanted, I was impressed by how much my skin still looked like skin—just on a really, really good day. The finish was even, fresh and glowy without looking heavy.

Your Skin Foundation Stick reminded me of the DIOR Forever Skin Perfect 24H Multi-Use Foundation Stick, though the finishes are different. DIOR’s is more blurring, almost like an Instagram filter, while Jones Road gives more of a natural, your-skin-but-better finish. Jones Road is also fragrance-free and reads more skin-care-leaning, whereas DIOR feels a bit more polished and makeup-y. Both have their place, but right now, I’m leaning toward Jones Road for how natural it looks.

Jones Road Your Skin Foundation Stick: What’s Inside

A quick scan of the ingredient list explains why this stick feels so creamy. The formula includes emollients and conditioning ingredients such as squalane, shea butter and sunflower seed oil, which help give it that buttery glide and keep the finish from looking dry or cakey. Sodium hyaluronate, a humectant, helps draw in moisture, while ceramide NP helps the formula feel more comfortable and less drying on skin.

The stick format also relies on waxes and rich emollients to give it structure and help it swipe on smoothly. On my dry skin, that richness was a plus. That said, very oily or breakout-prone skin types may find it a little too creamy, so it’s worth keeping your skin’s preferences in mind.

Is the Jones Road Your Skin Foundation Stick Worth It?

I can only speak to my experience testing this product on dry, uneven skin, but for me, it’s worth it. My biggest foundation concerns are formulas looking dry or dull, settling into forehead lines and making texture look more obvious than it does without makeup. This stick didn’t do that. Instead, it helped even out my complexion while keeping my skin looking fresh and hydrated.

At $38, it’s not the most affordable foundation out there, but it is versatile. In my day-to-day, that means quickly dabbing it onto my skin before a morning work Zoom to look a little more alive. But I also plan to use it for an upcoming wedding, where I’ll take a little more time building up the coverage for a natural-looking, glowy finish that feels right for a warm summer night.

All of this to say: My DIOR foundation stick isn’t being evicted from my makeup bag just yet, but let’s just say it has a very chic new roommate.
