Skateboarder Nyjah Huston Launches a Personal-Care Line

Legendary skateboarder Nyjah Huston is entering the personal-care space with the launch of Out There, a new clean body-care brand designed for life in motion. Developed with Concept Brands, the line pairs high-performance, better-for-you formulas with elevated, designer-inspired scents at an accessible price point. Launching nationwide this month at Walmart and online, the collection—priced from $8 to $12—aims to prove that effective, clean essentials don’t have to be niche or expensive.

The aluminum-free lineup is powered by odor-eating probiotic enzymes for up to 48 hours of protection and formulated without parabens, phthalates, sulfates, dyes or aerosols. Debuting products include Clean Body Deo Spray, Clean Body Def Spray and Hydrating Body Wash, all offered in gender-neutral scents like Japanese Shiso, Tonka Amber, Bergamot Wood and Santal Vetiver. With vegan, cruelty-free formulas and recyclable packaging, Huston’s latest venture is built on a simple idea: When you feel good in your body, you’re more likely to get outside and live fully.

What inspired you to enter the clean body space now?

“I would say the first thing that inspired me was becoming more aware of how harmful the products we use are to us, and deodorant was one I hadn’t switched out yet. I tried products available on the market, but I wasn’t happy with any of them—they didn’t last long enough. I’ve always wanted to be part of a brand that lets me really express my love for the outdoors, the importance of spending time in nature and, of course, skateboarding. This was the perfect intersection between meeting a need and my passion for the outdoors.”

How did your upbringing shape your perspective on wellness and conscious living?

“My upbringing had everything to do with my health consciousness to this day. My siblings and I were born and raised in Davis, CA. When I was 11, we moved out to Puerto Rico, and I spent a few years on this farm in the middle of nowhere, just living outside of normal society. We never even went to a normal school; we were home-schooled. I was raised vegan, so my mom was cooking all day, every day, for all of us, and I think it really paid off. Being raised without putting many harmful things into our bodies, like many kids, helped us live a simpler, healthier lifestyle. Today, the more I take care of myself, the longer I’m going to be able to skate, which is the goal.”

As an athlete, was there a specific moment when you realized that the body care market wasn’t meeting your needs?

“I have no problem admitting that I used Axe for way too long, ever since I was a little kid, and then up until a few years ago. Finally, I was like, ‘Alright, it’s time to get rid of this stuff, let’s try out some good stuff,’ and most of it just didn’t last long enough. So many brands would be hyped up, and then I would try them out and feel like I had to reapply a few hours later. That doesn’t really work for the type of lifestyle that I live. I’m always on the go.”

How does Out There reflect the same discipline that defines your skateboarding career?

“I’ve always been about discipline, honestly, ever since I was a little kid. I had crazy discipline in my everyday life. That translated into being disciplined in how I practiced skating. I would have these routines that I would just do every single day, between skating and homework. I think that routine is important in life.

In terms of Out There, I think it’s very important to spend a lot of time outdoors as part of your routine, even if it’s just a simple couple-mile walk every day. I really think it’s good for your mind, it’s good for your health and just making that a part of your routine keeps the body moving.”

What does performance-driven mean in the context of body care?

“When it comes to deodorant, it means putting something on that you trust will last all day—without worrying about having to reapply or any long-term effects that the ingredients will have on your body.”

Out There

As someone constantly exposed to sun, sweat and environmental stress, what are your biggest personal skin concerns?

“In my younger years, I was not good at putting on sunscreen. Even now, I don’t really stress on my whole body, but mainly my face. Just recently, I started becoming better at that. That said, I am pretty on point when it comes to my other skin care. One of my goals is to keep my tattoos looking as good as long as possible, because I didn’t go through hundreds of hours of pain just to let them fade away.”

What was a non-negotiable ingredient for you when developing Out There?

“Zero aluminum.”

What makes Out There truly disruptive?

“The vision behind the brand says it all: we’re not trying to copy other brands, we’re not trying to necessarily be better than other brands. We’re trying to be different, and Out There is for people who aren’t afraid to be different. I think that’s one of the most important things in life.

That’s something that skateboarding has taught me because skating is really all about finding your own creative style, so there are endless amounts of tricks that you can do. It’s about finding what you truly love and what works well for you, and I think that goes for all aspects of life. “

Do you see the brand strictly for athletes or for anyone living an active lifestyle?

“No, I think Out There is definitely for everyone. Quality ingredients and affordable prices are for everyone. Our products are for all genders, ages and socioeconomic backgrounds. I want it to be for my fans, and even for people who aren’t living an active lifestyle but eventually want to. We’re trying to inspire people to spend more time outside and really make the most out of their days.”

What do you want someone to feel the first time they use Out There?

“I want them to feel alive.”
