It\u2019s messy, but it\u2019s not dirty,\u201d says Lawler, noting that Batiste\u2019s dry shampoo was the perfect product to help strike this delicate balance. \u201cHer hair has vitality and still feels beautiful with a kind of lived-in texture, and that\u2019s why it\u2019s the perfect dry shampoo look.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

How To Get the Look<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Upon arrival, Lawler tips the models\u2019 heads over and puts Batiste Original Powder Dry Shampoo ($17) into their roots to refresh hair and add substantial volume. For brunettes, he opts for Batiste Original Powder Dark Dry Shampoo ($17). To help add texture and achieve that lived-in look, he uses an extra big curling iron\u2014Bio Ionic Long Barrel Curling Iron 1.5 inch ($163)\u2014to target areas that need just a tiny bend\u2014no structured curls in sight.<\/p>\n

Using Goody Ponytail Holders ($11) in the same color as the models\u2019 hair, Lawler grabs pieces, pulls them into a ponytail and secures the tie about 2 inches higher than where the final look should sit. \u201cOnce secured, gently drag the hair tie down. This creates a beautiful, loose texture at the crown and gives the base that \u2018slept-in\u2019 romantic feel,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is the secret to the look. It\u2019s not a traditional braid or a fishtail, but a series of folds. Take three pieces of hair: one from each side and one from the middle. Cross them over each other loosely. As you work, pull the sections outward to create width,\u201d directs Lawler. \u201cThe result should look like a braid that has started to unravel and \u2018drop\u2019 throughout the night.\u201d Finally, Lawler goes back in with some more Batiste Original Powder Dry Shampoo, targeting the roots and ends and adding just a touch to the mid-lengths. He recommends \u201crolling and pushing the powder into the ends so you get separation, texture and all these beautiful flyaway romantic bits.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
