The new Thrive Causemetics EmpowerGloss Ultra-Glossy Lip Serum ($28) meets those criteria and more, and I\u2019ve been singing its praises to friends and family this month. Here\u2019s my honest review.<\/p>\n

Why I Love This Lip Serum<\/h2>\n

Is it a serum? A gloss? Let\u2019s call it a mix of both, which is exactly why I love it. You get the lip-care benefits of a serum, but the high shine of a gloss. The moisturizing payoff comes from a blend of jojoba oil, vitamin E, shea butter and other nutrient-rich seed oils, giving the formula a super-buttery slip on my lips. It\u2019s not sticky, either, which I always appreciate in a gloss.<\/p>\n

My favorite shade from the eight-piece lineup is Jo, a pinky mauve that reads very \u201cyour lips but better\u201d on me. If you\u2019re already a fan of the brand\u2019s EmpowerMatte Precision Lipstick Crayon, you\u2019ll notice Jo is one of the two shades available across both products\u2014the other is Ragan, a warm plum. If you like the Black Honey lip look, Hilda is the shade to try. Sometimes I like to layer EmpowerMatte and EmpowerGloss as well for more color and longer-lasting wear.<\/p>\n

Another bonus is that the lip serum is vegan and free of synthetic fragrance, though you\u2019ll notice a subtle hint of vanilla. A quick scan of the ingredient list shows vanillin, a food-grade compound with GRAS status from the FDA (meaning it\u2019s generally recognized as safe). One more thing worth noting: The packaging is a non-retractable \u201cpen,\u201d so once you twist it up, that amount of product stays exposed\u2014you can\u2019t twist it back down.
