Long before \u201cskinification\u201d became a hair-care buzzword, there was Silk Therapy. In 1986, Dr. Farouk Shami, founder and chairman of Farouk Systems, the company that would later give us the cult-favorite CHI flat iron, introduced natural silk proteins to professional hair care with BioSilk Silk Therapy ($33). At the time, the idea was a departure. \u201cWe were taking an ingredient that had been valued for centuries and bringing it into modern hair care technology,\u201d Shami explains. \u201cThat was the beginning of Silk Therapy, and it became something very special to me and to millions of people.\u201d To him, silk was never just a functional ingredient. \u201cIt represents beauty, strength, softness and nature working together,\u201d he says. \u201cBioSilk became special because it connected an ancient beauty ingredient with modern science. Forty years later, that question has kept the brand in bathrooms and on salon shelves, and Shami believes the reason goes far beyond results. \u201cI think people love BioSilk because they can feel<\/em> the difference,\u201d he says. \u201cIt is not only about how the hair looks. There\u2019s a sentimental pull, too. \u201cBioSilk has been part of people\u2019s lives for many years,\u201d Shami says. \u201cSome people discovered it when they were young, and now they are sharing it with their children. That means a lot to me. When you create something that becomes part of someone\u2019s beauty ritual, you have created more than a product. You have created a memory.\u201d<\/p>\n

To mark the milestone, the brand is introducing BioSilk Silk Therapy Gold, a six-product collection that builds on the original serum by pairing Silk Therapy\u2019s signature silk proteins with ingredients borrowed from skin care. Guided by the philosophy \u201cYour scalp is skin,\u201d the line covers a full routine, from shampoo and conditioner to treatments and finishing products, and it\u2019s designed for all hair types. According to the brand, the formulas nourish the scalp while helping hair feel softer, smoother and more hydrated, with products that also help protect against dryness, frizz and heat damage.<\/p>\n

Silk is still the star, and its amino acids help condition hair for a softer feel and added shine. The supporting ingredients have their own roles: The brand includes peptides to help improve elasticity and the look of fuller hair, hyaluronic acid to help retain moisture, and ceramides to support the hair\u2019s protective barrier. Bakuchiol and aloe vera round out the collection\u2019s focus on scalp care. The entire line is scented with Wild Tuberose, a blend of tuberose and creamy coconut.<\/p>\n
