As treatment options, skin care innovations and new beauty categories multiply by the year, providers are seeing wellness, aesthetics and longevity collide in ways that are reshaping what patients ask for. NewBeauty’s The State of Aesthetics Summer 2026 report, powered by the BeautyEngine platform, breaks down what’s actually driving those decisions. Here’s what we learned from the first half of the year.

1. Most patients want a long-term treatment plan

Only 9.1 percent of aesthetic patients actually follow a long-term treatment plan with a provider. The rest are figuring it out treatment by treatment: 35.4 percent stick to one procedure at a time, 25.5 percent book only when the mood strikes, and 31.5 percent are juggling multiple concerns with no real strategy tying it together. It’s not that people don’t care. They’ve just never sat down with a provider and mapped out where they’re headed.

2. “Natural” means invisible, not minimal

When it comes to addressing aging, the approach appears to be split down the middle: 58 percent want to look younger than their actual age, and 41 percent are simply aiming for a well-maintained version of themselves. But 93 percent are open to some kind of treatment, and just over half, 50.6 percent, want results so subtle nobody clocks them. Another 11.1 percent are actively chasing a youthful look, and 31.1 percent aren’t ruling out surgery alongside the nonsurgical stuff. Only 7.2 percent are letting nature run its course. Translation: this was never about doing less. It’s about doing it invisibly.

3. “Well-rested” has become the benchmark

Ninety-one percent of patients say looking refreshed matters to them, and 51 percent call it extremely important, one of the most lopsided results in the entire survey. Barely 10 percent shrug it off, and only 0.2 percent say it doesn’t matter at all. That single preference is shaping what people actually book: neurotoxin leads every short-term wish list at 67.3 percent, and “look less tired” cracks the top five aesthetic goals at 51.2 percent. Nobody’s asking for a new face. They’re asking to look like they finally slept.

4. GLP-1s are rewriting the conversation, again

Among patients on GLP-1 medications, 48 percent have lost 20 pounds or more, and 41 percent have been on the medication for over a year, long enough for the aesthetic fallout to show up in the treatment room. Skin tightening on the body now tops the post-weight-loss wish list at 64 percent, and loose or sagging skin, not leftover fat, is the number-one complaint at 42 percent, compared to just 9.4 percent worried about fat and 7.2 percent about cellulite. Muscle tone is close behind at 40.4 percent. Even the body ideal is moving: 40.1 percent now say lean is the look, and another 26.5 percent say athletic, a combined 67 percent turning away from curvy or hourglass.

5. Breast implant patients are considering revision

Seventy-one percent of existing implant patients have thought about revising or replacing them, and it’s rarely about safety. Implant age is the top reason at 29.4 percent, and changes in appearance over time follow at 25.6 percent, together dwarfing safety concerns, which sit at just 16 percent. Wanting a different size or shape drives another 20 percent of the conversation. When patients picture new implants, a natural look and feel matters most, 25 percent, ahead of low complication risk at 20 percent.

6. Menopause patients are looking for solutions

More than three-quarters of patients, 76.6 percent, want energy treatments for menopause-related skin and body changes, and more than half are open to fillers to restore facial volume. Topical skin care built for menopausal skin appeals to 58.1 percent, and over half, 52.9 percent, aren’t opposed to hormone replacement therapy. What matters most when choosing a treatment? Results, at 24.9 percent, ahead of cost at 22.2 percent and safety at 20.9 percent.

7. AI has entered the research phase, but it hasn’t taken over

Nearly a third of patients, 30.3 percent, have already used AI to research treatments, and 52 percent say they’re comfortable doing so, nearly double the number who’ve actually tried it. But physician websites still rank second among all research sources, essentially tied with social media and just behind search engines. AI tools rank fifth. Patients may be curious about AI, but they’re still landing on the practice website to verify what they find.

8. Peptides have patients’ attention, and their confusion

More than half of patients, 54.1 percent, are very interested in peptide therapies for skin health or anti-aging, and another 27.3 percent are at least somewhat curious, putting overall interest above 80 percent. Skin rejuvenation is the second biggest draw at 73.2 percent, just behind weight loss at 81.4 percent. But interest is outpacing understanding: only 17.3 percent say they’re very familiar with how peptides actually work. The same knowledge gap shows up in regenerative treatments, where exosome therapies rank second in patient consideration despite trailing PRP significantly in name recognition.

9. People are being careful with money, not giving things up

More than half of patients, 51.5 percent, say they’ve gotten more careful with spending over the past six months. But aesthetic treatments still rank eighth out of 10 on the list of what people would cut first, just 11 percent, trailing dining out at 55.3 percent, travel at 26 percent and even nail care at 42.6 percent. Nearly two-thirds, 64 percent, still pay in full upfront, and only 12 percent finance at all. This isn’t a category people are walking away from. It’s one of the last things on the list.

Report Methodology: The 2026 NewBeauty “State of Aesthetics” report is based on real-time data gathered from BeautyEngine subscribers, surveyed in Q2 2026 on treatment considerations, provider selection and spending habits and attitudes for the year ahead.

[55
