During a recent press conference, Swiss chocolatier Lindt & Spr\u00fcngli had a message for those who believe GLP-1 medications dampen demand for chocolate delicacies: the data suggests otherwise.<\/p>\n
The premium chocolate maker reported\u00a0double-digit organic growth in 2025, with sales climbing 12.4 percent to CHF 5.92 billion and operating profit reaching CHF 971 million. The results highlight the strength of the luxury chocolate category, even as the global confectionery industry grapples with record cocoa prices and economic uncertainty.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Part of that growth came from price adjustments across the company\u2019s portfolio. Lindt implemented\u00a0average price increases of roughly 19 percent in 2025\u00a0to offset soaring cocoa costs, yet demand remained strong.<\/p>\n
But the company also pointed to an unexpected driver of premium chocolate demand: consumers using GLP-1 weight-loss medications. Data cited by the brand found that while about\u00a015 percent of U.S. households use GLP-1 drugs, they account for roughly 17.5 percent of chocolate sales, suggesting consumers are still indulging, just in different ways.<\/p>\n
According to Chief Executive Adalbert Lechner, many of those shoppers are simply shifting their habits, rather than eliminating treats entirely. As people cut back on calorie-dense foods like pizza, pasta and chips, they\u2019re still seeking moments of indulgence\u2014often choosing\u00a0smaller portions of higher-quality products\u00a0instead. He described it as a \u201cless is more\u201d mindset, where consumers opt for\u00a0\u201csmall rewards with moments of bliss rather than mindless munching.\u201d<\/p>\n
That shift toward mindful indulgence is helping sustain demand for premium sweets even as wellness trends reshape the broader food landscape. In other words, consumers may be eating less, but when they do treat themselves, they\u2019re reaching for better chocolate.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
