A cross-country flight the night before the Emmys is hardly ideal skin prep. But Carrie Coon arrived at the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards looking fresh, sculpted and radiant thanks to celebrity makeup artist Rebecca Restrepo, who used a combination of microcurrent and moisture-replenishing skin care to revive her travel-dehydrated complexion.
Wearing a sculptural navy Maison Margiela gown, the Outstanding Lead Actress nominee paired it with a beauty look that kept the focus on her face. “I wanted to keep it youthful, fresh and modern to balance the structural look of the dress and show her beautiful skin and large, expressive eyes,” Restrepo says.
Restrepo began with ZIIP Crystal Gel ($80), a conductive gel made with glutathione and cedar bark extract, followed by the ZIIP Halo ($399), the brand’s handheld microcurrent and nanocurrent device. “We just focused on her cheekbones and around her laugh lines to really hydrate and depuff her skin,” she says. Concentrating the treatment along her cheekbones helped create more definition and catch the light once makeup was applied.
To replenish moisture without causing makeup to pill, Restrepo followed with Beau Domaine The Serum ($139) and Beau Domaine The Rich Cream ($99). “Even though we’re in Los Angeles and the weather is beautiful, I still chose a richer cream because her skin is very sensitive and she reacts to the dehydration of a long flight,” she says. The final result was a hydrated, luminous canvas—and proof of why red carpet makeup starts with great skin prep.
